10 easy tips for a more sustainable life

With the global climate crisis increasing, it is more important than ever to make an effort towards living a sustainable life. By making small changes and following simple tips, everyone can do their part to reduce their environmental impact. In this blog post, we will explore 10 easy tips for creating a more sustainable lifestyle. By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can help create a healthier environment for yourself and future generations.

1. Go thrift shopping. There are many stores available all over the world where you can have a great experience finding some second-hand gems. You can also find second hand products online on plenty of websites. I really enjoy thrift shopping, and I cannot wait to go back and see what I can find there. What has been your favourite find in a thrift store?

2. Research hotels before booking a room. Hotels that are sustainable offer eco-friendly activities, use more natural cleaning products, not use plastic bottles etc.

3. Choose sustainable fashion instead of fast fashion. Fast fashion is responsible for huge amounts of fashion waste as well as terrible working conditions for their employees. Here are some of my favourite sustainable fashion items!

4. Avoid plastic when possible. You often have a choice for food packaging. Go for cardboard packaging over plastic, for example, for eggs. Use a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic one. Those little things matter, too!

5. Reuse! Instead of buying a plastic bottle of water, get yourself a nice reusable water bottle and keep refilling it. Get a reusable coffee cup and a shopping bag, too.

6. Only buy what you need. How often do you make an impulse puchase and then never use the product? If you only purchase items that you actually need or want, you won’t end up wasting things.

7. Explore your local zero waste shop! This way you can completely avoid any packaging and find some more new sustainable items for your home. It will have everything you need for more sustainable living.

8. Buy local and seasonal produce. That way you will support your local farmers, too.

9. Plan your meals to avoid food waste. Make sure you don’t buy and cook more food than you need to avoid wasting it.

10. Quality over quantity. Buy things that will last longer. It might cost a bit more to buy a better quality item, but it will work out cheaper and more sustainable in the long run. E.g. I once bought cheap boots that I liked. They didn’t last long, but I just liked the look of them, so I then purchased another pair just like it. Well, that one didn’t last long either. So the next year I decided to spend more and focus more on the quality of the boots. So, a year later the more expensive and better quality boots are still fine and I don’t need another pair.
